Rest, Refreshing, Renewal
George and Denise Shinn, the former owners of the NBA Hornets, have graciously donated a beautiful 117-acre Tennessee ranch to Church of the King. This ranch, now called the George Shinn Leadership Retreat Center, is a place for missionaries, ministers, and ministry leaders from around the world to find rest, refreshment, and renewal. During his battle with prostate cancer in 2009, George had a desire to see missionaries and ministers come to the peaceful ranch to be refreshed and renewed. After he and Denise prayed about it, the Lord spoke to both of them about donating the ranch to Church of the King.
The ranch is nestled in eastern Tennessee in a beautiful, rolling valley just on the outskirts of Jonesborough, Tennessee. Jonesborough is not only the oldest city in Tennessee, but is also the birthplace of Davy Crockett. The old homestead on the ranch was first built in 1849 on the banks of a meandering creek that runs down the middle of the property. In the late 1990s, the original house was restored, renovated, and a spacious living area was added to the house.
In honor of and gratitude to the Shinns for their generosity, we have named the ranch the George Shinn Leadership Retreat Center. George Shinn is an established leader not only in the business world, but is a wonderful Christian leader, speaker, and author whose premier personal goal is to see more people “won to the Lord.”
With great pleasure and delight, we accept this ranch as a gift to help fulfill the mandate on Church of the King - Reaching People and Building Lives.
